We are the World and CocoRosie were amazing!!

Just got back from the CocoRosie show w/ We are the World. It was amazing. Prior to the show I had no idea who We are the World was, but they fucking nailed it. All of the members came out wearing what I would call panther masks. Music consisted of a lot of sick beats and some heavy ass bass, seriously I felt my throught vibrating.
After We are the World I kept on thinking to myself how the hell is CocoRosie going to beat this?! They just dominated that shit, I mean right from the get go. Sick-ass beats and the most unique sound I have heard in a while. It’s really hard to describe these guys, you got a guy doing sick beat-boxing the whole time, two completely contrasting singers (thanks Shaban), a harp, synth, a little toy sound maker, a tape player, and they just make it harmonize beautifully. More pics and the set list after the break.

New Music Tuesdays: Sister Rogers

Welcome to our first edition of New Music Tuesdays! This week we present to you Sister Rogers. My friend told me about this band today and I had never heard of them before, so the first thing I did of course was go check them out on YouTube. Damn! I really liked them, “Inspired by Jazz and Bossa Nova greats such as Vinicius De Moraes,Jobim Antonio Carlos and others. Sister Rogers has shifted through the past emerging to create their own sound. Classically influenced with modern inflections, Lush melancholic melodies atop pulsing and danceable Latin rhythms” (From their song desc. on YouTube). I really like Ericka’s voice, and everything seems to flow very well together. Video after the break.

Reminder: Broken Bells tomorrow at the Wiltern!

If you are lucky enough to have scored some tickets to the Broken Bells concert tomorrow, you are in for a treat. I missed seeing them by a day while I was in Germany this summer but my sister saw them live and said they were fantastic! If you have got the money to spend you can still get tickets on craigslist for ~$60 a pop.
